Ground-breaking implant treatment for a secure and aesthetic outcome
If you do not have enough bone density in your upper jaw, traditional dental implants may not be an option. Innovative zygomatic dental implants can be a solution and can be placed without the need for a bone graft. The longer reach implants reach the cheekbone (the zygomatic arch) for strong and aesthetic results.
At Fairlands Dental & Implant Centre, we stand behind the quality and care of our dental work. For your peace of mind, we offer a comprehensive guarantee on all our dental treatments. If you are considering dental implants, we would be happy to meet with you for a no-obligation consultation to discuss whether zygomatic dental implants might be a suitable treatment for you. We will present all your treatment options and provide you with a written plan outlining the number of appointments, duration of treatment, and all costs, with no hidden extras.

What is a zygomatic dental implant?
Zygomatic dental implants are a specialised type of dental implant designed for patients with severe bone loss in the upper jaw. Unlike traditional dental implants, which are placed into the jawbone, zygomatic implants are anchored to the cheekbone (zygoma). This unique placement makes them a viable option for patients who may not have enough jawbone for traditional implants.
How do zygomatic implants work?
Zygomatic implants work in a similar way to All-on-4 treatment, offering a beautiful and functional set of teeth in just one day. Up to four traditional implants are used to support a natural-looking dental bridge, with two long zygomatic implants placed at the rear and anchored into the cheekbone for additional stability.
When do we use zygomatic implants?
Zygomatic implants are typically used in cases where:
- There is severe bone loss in the upper jaw due to factors such as periodontal disease, trauma, or congenital defects.
- Traditional dental implants are not feasible due to insufficient bone height or volume.
- The patient desires a fixed dental restoration (such as a bridge or denture) to replace missing teeth.
Advantages of zygomatic dental implants?
Zygomatic dental implants offer several advantages, including:
- Immediate function: In some cases, patients may be able to receive a temporary restoration on the same day the implants are placed, allowing for immediate improvement in function and appearance.
- Improved stability: Zygomatic implants are anchored to the cheekbone, which is a strong and stable part of the facial skeleton. This provides excellent support for dental restorations.
- Enhanced aesthetics: Zygomatic implants can help restore the natural appearance of the face and smile, especially in cases of severe bone loss.
- Long-term durability: With proper care and maintenance, zygomatic implants can last for many years.
Are there any disadvantages to zygomatic dental implants?
While zygomatic dental implants offer many benefits, there are a few potential drawbacks:
- Complex surgery: The placement of zygomatic implants is a more complex procedure than traditional dental implants and requires a skilled oral surgeon.
- Higher cost: Zygomatic implants may be more expensive than traditional implants due to the specialised nature of the procedure.
- Potential complications: As with any surgical procedure, there is a risk of complications, such as infection, nerve damage, or implant failure. However, these risks are generally low when the procedure is performed by a qualified surgeon.
